A fresh day in Thailand

Day 2 Thailand June 5, 2010

Tuesday

We begin our day with a hearty breakfast, mostly Thai style… noodles, rice etc. Luckily Pastor Schaun was nice enough to test everything with his finger! How nice!

After breakfast we go with Pastor Ed to visit a slum area of Chiang Mai. Slum areas in Chiang Mai and all of Thailand are usually a hidden area away from tourists. We actually had to go through a small open air store to walk down this path of shacks. These small one room homes stand on stilts above a tiny stream of waste. The brick wall is a barrier between this world and the world outside. Not to be seen by visitors. A few small children who are not in school occasionally play in the dirt along this path. We stop with Pastor Ed and talk with a few of the women tending their homes and cooking outside in small pots. We listen to their stories and ask questions about their lives. Most importantly we pray for them.

Next Pastor Ed takes us to view some new construction for one of the ministries. This will be called FCC or Fellowship Christian Center, for boys and men who have been released from prison who have nowhere else to go. They will have the opportunity to learn about Jesus, but also learn other life skills.

Our evening ends with New Hope Home for young girls with HIV/AIDS. Pastor Ed and his wife Fang work with 6 young girls and soon will have 2 more girls full time. We had so much fun playing games and getting to know these precious spirits.

A little bit of homework before games!

A fabulous dinner with the girls!
